What is an "initial commissioning" of an electrical installation?

A new installation or modification of an installation must be tested against NEN 1010. This involves checking whether the installation does indeed meet the requirement regarding the safety level and the purpose of use. In addition, as much as possible is 100% measured and tested to see whether protective devices can trigger within the required times.

What is a NEN inspection?

An electrical installation must be maintained and inspected. This stems from the Working Conditions Act, which designates NEN 3140. The NEN 3140 is the standard in which all procedures relating to safe working, instructions and responsibilities are laid down. The method of construction, safety level and requirements for all low-voltage installations are laid down in NEN 1010.

A NEN 3140 inspection can only be carried out if an installation manager is present. This is a certified person with a designation from the management. The installation manager will set out an inspection plan and define the area to be inspected.

If there is no installation manager, an inspection is carried out in accordance with NEN 1010 part 62, periodic inspection. Before an inspection can be carried out, an inspection plan is drawn up together with the client.

In the case of a “first commissioning” inspection of the installation, NEN 1010 will be applied for the assessment.
