Girls'Day 20174 May 2017
Thursday 13 April was Girls’ Day 2017: a national event for primary-school pupils in the Netherlands.
Girls aged between the ages of 10 and 12 were given the opportunity to visit a company in their region and explore the world of technology.
Girls’ Day is an annual event organised by VHTO, the Dutch national expert organisation on girls/women and science/technology, in partnership with the educational publication company, Huis van Techniek, and local companies. At Technotron we understand the importance of engaging bright young minds in technology and are happy to support such initiatives.
We were delighted to welcome a group of girls from the Geuzennest primary school in Biervliet. Following a short explanation about electricity, the group spent some time making an electromagnet. After that, everyone could turn the lemons that they were asked to bring along into a battery. We rounded off by constructing a microphone connection using plastic buckets.
The day was completed with lunch and a chocolate Easter bunny.
